New Categories for 2010

New Awards have been developed along with new Award categories to make entering more accessible for more businesses.

For 2010 there are two new Awards:

BEST PROPAGATION NURSERY

BEST GOVERNMENT NURSERY

Garden Centre Awards

Best Small Garden Centre Annual turnover under $750,000

Criteria for this category - two page submission, up to four good quality photos and up to four pages of support material.

Best Medium Garden Centre Annual turnover $750,000 - $2 million

Criteria for this category - three page submission, up to eight good quality photos and up to eight pages of support material.

Best Large Garden Centre Annual turnover greater than $2 million

Criteria for this category are a four page submission, up to twelve good quality photos and up to twelve pages of support material.

Production Nursery Awards

Businesses can only enter one Production Nursery Award Category

Best Small, Medium and Large Production Nurseries

Eligible businesses for the production nursery category are producers of bedding plants and potted colour, indoor and patio plants as well as trees and shrubs.

Best Small Production Nursery five (5) or fewer Full time Equivalent (FTE) staff

Criteria for this category are a two (2) page submission and up to four (4) good quality photos and up to four (4) pages of support material.

Best Medium Production Nursery six (6) to fifteen (15) Full time Equivalent (FTE) staff

Criteria for this category are a three (3) page submission and up to eight (8) good quality photos and up to eight (8) pages of support material.

Best Large Production Nursery more than fifteen (15) Fulltime Equivalent (FTE) staff

Criteria for this category are a four (4) page submission and up to twelve (12) good quality photos and up to twelve (12) pages of support material.

Best Government Nursery – NEW FOR 2010

Eligible businesses for this category are Government owned nurseries that are publicly funded and are producers of bedding plants and potted colour, indoor and patio plants as well as trees and shrubs.

Criteria for this category are a four (4) page submission and up to twelve (12) good quality photos and up to twelve (12) pages of support material.

Best Propagation Nursery - NEW FOR 2010

Eligible businesses for the propagation nursery category are producers of propagation plugs and tube stock that are sold to production nurseries.

Criteria for this category are a four (4) page submission and up to twelve (12) good quality photos and up to twelve (12) pages of support material.

Young Leader Award

This category takes into account contribution to business, but in particular participation in industry activities and leadership potential for association and industry schemes. It is open to employees and employers under 35 years of age at the time of the Awards entry closes. Previous winners of this Award at either State or National level are not eligible to enter.

NGI Community Award

This Award recognises businesses who demonstrate outstanding commitment to their local community through work conducted outside of the day-to-day operations of your businesses.

Criteria for this category are a four (4) page submission and up to eight (8) good quality photos and pages of support material.

NGI Environment Award

This Award recognises business initiative to environmental management or community participation in relation to environmental issues.

Criteria for this category are a four (4) page submission and up to eight (8) good quality photos and pages of support material.

NGI Training Award

This Award recognises businesses who demonstrate an outstanding approach and commitment to staff training.

Criteria for this category are a four (4) page submission and up to eight (8) good quality photos and pages of support material

NGI Export Award

This Award recognises business initiative in relation to export success; this award is open to all industry businesses exporting a nursery and garden product, or service including greenlife, allied garden product, horticultural services, industry service, technology or plant breeder rights.

Criteria for this category are a four (4) page submission and up to eight (8) good quality photos and pages of support material.

NGI Industry Supplier Award – NEW ENTRY PROCESS FOR 2010

This Award recognises the outstanding industry contributions and exemplary services of allied traders/suppliers to Nursery & Garden Industry businesses. Suppliers include both product and service providers.

To enter this Award, suppliers will be nominated by the businesses they service with a 30-word summary of why this supplier is worthy of winning a 2010 Nursery & Garden Industry Award. The supplier with the most nominations will be the winner of the State award. The written submission will be taken into account in the event of a tie. All State Winners will be asked to complete a written submission based on the criteria similar to the 2009 Nursery & Garden Industry Awards program. These submissions will be judged by the NGI National Board and the National Winner announced at the Gala Awards Dinner at the National Conference in Darwin.
